Legal entity form
It's important you know what form of legal entity you are so we can properly handle your request. We'll need different information from you depending on which you are.
- Individual
-
An individual would be you acting upon your own behalf.
Your organisation in the RIPE Database would be named to the effect of 'John Doe'.
- Sole trader
-
A sole trader (also known as a sole proprietorship, individual entrepreneurship, etc.) has unlimited legal liability and is not a distinct legal entity from it's proprietor.
Your organisation in the RIPE Database can be named to the effect of either 'John Doe', or 'John Doe trading as Trading Name'.
- Partnership
- A partnership is similar to a sole trader but legally consists of multiple people.
- Limited liability company
-
A registered company is a limited liability entity, legally distinct from it's directors.
Your organisation in the RIPE Database will be named to the effect of 'Acme Trading Ltd'.
A common mistake is assuming you are a limited liability company when you are actually a sole trader. This is often the case in countries such as Indonesia and India where these legal forms are more common and often referred to as companies.
Please make sure the legal form you select is accurate as it will otherwise cause delays to your application.
